A summer afternoon of fun for all ages

Do you enjoy homemade cakes and teas and tasty barbecues?

Do your children love fun races?

Do you appreciate a good book stall/ bric a brac/ jam and chutney stall? Enjoy listening to a brass band, having a beer, admiring a flower show?

Then put Fitzhead Fete in your calendar for Saturday July 27, with fun events to watch out for before and after too.

The traditional afternoon event, held at the Fitzhead Cricket Ground from 2pm, is always hugely popular and has been going for decades.

Entry and parking are free, and there will be a host of stalls from great clothes bargains to children’s toys, homemade cakes to a prize draw, as well as the chance to just sit and soak up the atmosphere over cream teas or a beer, while you listen to Wiveliscombe Town Band.

There will also be fun races for children and adults, games of all kinds, plus the traditional flower show tent where entrants of all ages show their best flowers, fruit and vegetables, crafts and cakes.

The very next day on Sunday July 28 there will also be a fun duck race as part of the fete weekend, held at Holcombe Farm at the bottom of Tyler’s Lane. Buy a duck for £1 a go at the fete or from 2.30pm on the day. Children and adults enjoy several chances to walk beside the river ‘encouraging’ their yellow plastic ducks, plus there are teas and cakes in the beautiful garden.

There will be a free open decorating session at Fitzhead Tithe Barn on Sunday July 14, from 2 – 4.30pm, for children to enjoy making entries for the fete’s Flower Show.
