Hedgerow Chaplain in April

So here we are in the glorious month of April, with longer hours of daylight and those precious lighter evenings for that calm and quietening walk after the hubbub of the daily work routines. Walking around the fields, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing while busily feeding the first hatching brood. This is the second and more active month that we really see the re-emergence of the flowers, animals from their hibernation and the plentiful new life that abounds wherever you look and listen! Wonderful times all around! The month does start on the first with the ‘fun’ time that is April Fools Day. Fools beware!

Moving onto the new life that April brings, also comes into the Christian calendar with the resurrection of Jesus after the event of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and the Last Supper, Good Friday with Jesus dying on the cross and the great celebration of Easter Day when, “He is not here, He is risen” April to sum up is really about the rebirth of nature after the long dark cold winter, but also of the death and rebirth of Jesus.

We watch with delight as all is growing around bursting forth with a newfound meaning of life, vitality and realising how we can live in peace with God, each other and ourselves. It really is a celebration of new life after death! The full moon is on 6 April at 05.34am and is called the Pink Moon with the new moon being on the 20 April at 04.12am and called the Flower Moon.

April’s walks

There is a very short walk for April on Good Friday the 7 April , which is part of Helene’s Church service at Fitzhead, starting at 11.15am. The main ‘Spiritual Walk’ will be on the 18 April and is a 4.5 mile walk around Wiveliscombe. We will meet at the Croft Way Car Park at 10am. God Bless,
