Jam jars

Chutneys, jellies and jams galore!

It’s time to open the doors of the very cold and untidy garage of Swift Lodge in order to sell my autumnal preserves, so save the date please Saturday 12 November from 2.30pm, 4 Tithe Meadow, until I get too cold!

I have mellow chutneys, three types of chilli chutneys, maybe hotter than normal so beware, plus quince and damson cheeses for your Cheese Boards and a cucumber pickle which goes very well with smoked Salmon!

I have autumnal jams and jellies and one solitary pot of marmalade so don’t fight over it! Have you tried the Quince and Honey Jelly? I love it with soft oozing Cheese, yum! There are also a couple of fresh fig preserves, a plum and fig chutney and a fresh fig jam which, I discovered, also goes rather well with a soft oozing cheese. I do so love a soft oozy cheese!

All pots are £3 each and ALL the money I raise will go to the Taunton Food Bank so please bring plenty of cash with you and some extra as donations. Last year I raised £300 for the Food Bank with your help and I’d love to give them more this winter. It is sorely needed, more than ever in this dire economic climate, and as I discovered recently, all cash donations go to buying fresh fruit and veg from a local greengrocer. Please, please be as generous as you are able, I know that it will be much appreciated.

This is my LAST winter sale, I have spent far too much time with my bubbling cauldrons in the Swift Lodge Kitchen since August and I’m fed up with it all now, as is my long suffering husband! The cooking helped me stay sane(ish) during the many lockdowns we’ve all endured but now we both wish to return to a more interesting life, we hope. From now on I shall only fire up the cauldrons to make preserves for the fete and a few chutneys for the Harvest Supper.

I look forward to seeing you on the afternoon of 12 November, so please come warmly dressed, with a generous spirit and prepared to have a giggle!

All the best,
Janet Weeks
