Since February 2018, give or take the occasional lockdown, Fitzhead Singers have welcomed folk of all levels of experience (or none) from the surrounding area.
We are a very sociable group and are most definitely not just a Fitzhead choir. “You don’t want to hear me sing! At school, I was told to mime”. I’d like a £5 note (or a Tenor) for each time someone said this to me.
We give patient help to find your voice (eg are you a Soprano or a Bass?) and to develop it ‘on the job’. The only qualification for joining Fitzhead Singers is enthusiasm: there is no audition. You don’t need to be able to read music, but you will inevitably learn how to, or improve at, using the ‘dots’ on the page.
The focus for selecting our songs is great tunes with strong harmonies, so the styles cover classic popular songs and jazz standards, modern and traditional folk, classical gems and gospel. More experienced singers will find our musical material offers plenty of challenge. Everything we sing is in 3 or 4 part harmony.
We rehearse on Mondays in Fitzhead Tithe Barn (next to the church) from 7.30 until 9pm. Weekly subs are £3. The next meeting is on 26 September.
