Merry Christmas advent

Advent pilgrimage

Hello everyone,

I wish you all well and a happy Advent, a season of comings, encounters and arrivals. Keep this in mind as I have a project for you to ponder on.

It is a 90 mile walk along the biblical journey (the Nativity Trail) Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The walk would take them along the path of the River Jordan then over the desert hills which surround Jerusalem leading into Bethlehem. This would take roughly 8 to 9 days, if we had begun on 29 November (first day of Advent) we would have had four weeks.

The loss of a few days is no matter – the object of this pilgrimage is to create our own Advent Pilgrimage – some of us could walk the 90 miles in our villages taking photographs en route, but for those who are unable to do the whole walk of 90 miles, there are other ways of achieving that figure of 90.

Breakdown the tasks into three challenges of 30. Name trees and flowers from Israel and the UK, photographs, paintings, drawings, sewing or knitting 90 squares to create a blanket for charity. Verses from the bible could be read each day, this would soon mount up. I am sure there are other ideas you may think of.

An Advent Passport, showing the route Joseph and Mary may have taken, has been created for your journey and if you would like to be part of this challenge please let me or the office know and we can forward an Advent Passport to you. There will be a sign-up sheet for those wanting to take part. My telephone number is 01823 400045.

The challenge is to complete the 90 tasks by Christmas Eve.

Blessings to you all.

Sandra Lee
